UF Whitney Center

LOCATION: Gainseville, FL

The Center for Marine Studies is the anchor building of a new campus master plan developed for the University of Florida’s Whitney Laboratory located in Marineland, Florida along the Intracoastal Waterway. This 16,000 square foot building will provide vital new space for the Whitney Laboratory’s education and community outreach programs. It is composed of classrooms, teaching laboratory spaces, offices, a public exhibit/lobby space, and a teaching auditorium used primarily for lectures but also designed for smaller music performances. The new Center for Marine Studies is currently scheduled for completion in November of 2005.

During all phases of the planning, design and construction of this building, Dasher Hurst proved to be very responsive and accommodating to our needs, and worked very well with me and my staff, with the University of Florida Office of Facilities Planning, the entity that had oversight on the project.

They worked with us to identify adjustments that could be made that did not compromise the quality of the final project. We are delighted with the building they designed for us. Based on that experience, if we are in a position to construct any additional building on our campus, I would have no hesitation hiring Dasher Hurst a second time.
