Independent Life Building
Location: Jacksonville, Florida
Dasher Hurst Architects was tasked with the challenge of designing a new addition to the Independent Life Building in Jacksonville, built around 1962. This building, somewhat iconic in Jacksonville, is a classic mid-century modern high rise with gracefully proportioned masses constructed of stone, stainless steel, and ceramic tile. Our challenge was to design an addition that was sensitive and complementary to the original while expanding the footprint and taking advantage of views to Hemming Plaza, the main civic gathering space in Jacksonville.
