Cummer Museum – Mason & Jacobsen Galleries
Location: Jacksonville, Florida
The 17,000 s.f. Mason Gallery expansion houses a large gallery for temporary exhibitions. The space features a full height glass storefront facing the museum’s gardens and the river beyond as well as a clerestory skylight bringing filtered daylight into the gallery.
The Jacobsen Gallery, opened in 2005, is a new exhibit space showcasing the Museum’s collection of American Art. It is located in roughly 2,000 sqft. of renovated space in the original museum building.
Both projects required a careful analysis of the existing structures and building infrastructure as well as a creative design that allowed the institution to remain operational throughout construction.
