Dasher Hurst Architect’s design for the City of Jacksonville Fire Station 40 was awarded a Merit Award at the annual AIA Jacksonville Design Awards Gala on Friday, May 4th. This riverfront project, located on Heckscher Drive, serves both a land and marine based fire fighting function. The building will receive, as part of Phase II, a new boat dock to allow the City to maintain safety on the river near Mayport Naval Base, the Port of Jacksonville, and the Cruise Terminal.
The building, expected to be LEED Certified, was designed to withstand a Category 3 hurricane and 150 mph winds. It was completed in November, 2011 by Auld & White Constructors.
